whines until I take her!
Steffie also loves the car &
the beach.

Sambo
I thought I would just send you a
couple pics of Sambo who I adopted from you in may and let you know
how he is. He is such a great dog and has settled in very well. We
are currently doing dog obedience training which he loves. He is so
good with other dogs and my son. Loves the beach and his big
backyard. He is very loving and sneaks inside ALOT, he tries to hide
but because he is so big he is hard to miss ha ha He is a gentle
giant, he will be a big boy when he stops growing!! He has learnt
sit, stay, lay down, comes when is called and even shakes hands! He
is a loved member of our little family. Thanks, Kate

Tilly now Sunny
Just wanted to let you know how Sunny is getting along . We
came and met Sunny in late March .Sunny was very timid for the first
week or so & wouldn't eat alone .Luckily our mad cat eating her food
soon changed all that & Sunny soon became the bouncy ball of fun she is
now. Sunny loves long sniffy walks & sunning herself & likes to be
social. Sunny is a huge part of the family & loves to greet everybody as
they come home from school or work (usually by hurling herself at them)
We wouldn't be without her & we are pretty sure she feels the same.
Thanks to the wonderful staff there for introducing us to her . Robyn |

Phelix
Just a quick update on Phelix - he's been with us now for nearly
6 months to the day - so I wanted you and the other volunteers to know
he's safe and well!
His big brother Rodney (3 yo border collie x kelpie) and I love Phelix
more than anything in the world.
They still play together all day and love going for a run at the park in
Woodvale each afternoon - there's lots of green grass for playing fetch
and trees, shrubs and lots of other dogs for sniffing!
He's slowly getting used to his fortnightly bath - he doesn't eagerly
jump in the tub, but he puts up with it to get the pigs ear treat
afterwards!
Rodney and Phelix recently had some professional photos done at
Houndstooth Studio - I've attached one of Phelix for you.
The photographer, Alex, loved this photo so much she's using it in some
of her promotions!
His favourite things are - sleeping on the end of the bed wrapped up in
his faux fur rug; sausages; chewing tennis balls and having me scratch
behind his ears when we're on the lounge chair watching tv. He's such a
good boy that he doesn't even need the lead on when we go outside.
Please let the other volunteers know that he's doing really well - he
was the Caretaker's Choice after all!
I'd love for his photo to go on your website too.
Kind regards, Michelle |

Sasha
On
Saturday the 23rd of October we adopted Sasha a 4 year old
Labrador/German Shepherd cross. My two son's have been very excited
at the prospect of having a dog in the family, so Sasha has been
very welcome and very spoilt over the weekend. To
date we have found Sasha to be very playful, child friendly, only
barking when someone or something (cats) are on our property that
should not be.
While Sasha can be very
obedient and polite in our yard we have found that on the lead and
especially if she can see another dog that she will try and drag us
away, so off to some training and socialising.
Attached are a few photos just after Sasha's first bath which she
stood still for.
So thanks for all your efforts in getting Sasha this far. Will let
you know how we get on.
Regards, Keith

Pitney now Nikon
Just thought I'd update you on Pitney (now called 'Nikon' after my
connection with photography and that he did not come to Pitney, hope
your not too upset about this!!).
He got quite ill on Monday and
we spent a sleepless night. He had a bout of food poisoning or
something. He was throwing up (both ends) and had to have a needle
at Warnbro Veterinary Hospital to stop his convulsions (being sick)
the following day. He was in a bad way. The needle has worked and
at least he is now eating and looks a lot better today.
He LOVES the beach and comes to
work with me. The challenge will be when I have to go away for a
wedding and he will go on a long lead at home. Has already spent a
few hours on the lead with no problems.
Cheers - Kingsley

Sasha now Indi
We adopted Indi in April and
couldn't have asked for a better addition to our family.
She loves travelling in the car, socialising at the local dog beaches,
bush walking, fetching and playing her favourite game - keepy off us!
She is a cheeky girl, giving us 'where have you been' growl first thing
in the morning.
We are very lucky, our lawn is still in tact, not so for all the dog
toys and balls (there have been alot) and Indi even puts herself to bed
at night!
Thank you to all the volunteers at K9 Rescue for the fabulous job you
all do!

Toby & Tasha
It's about 8 weeks
(5/11/10) since I brought Toby and Tash to live with me so I thought
I'd let you know how we're getting on.
They've settled in beautifully. They're very
different – Tash is adventurous and active where Toby is cautious.
She loves toys and playing, but he just wants cuddles. With
brushing he's losing the brown undercoat and developing a glossy
black back. She knew immediately what a brush is for but doesn't
like to sit still for long, so he's brushed a lot!
They're still good friends, sleeping close together
and having a friendly wrestle or, increasingly, a bit of a lick and
cuddle. They love the beach and all the other dogs and people.
From the start, Tash chased her ball (and everyone else's) but she
won't give it back, just carries it round in her mouth or tries to
bury it in a big hole. Toby does more there each day and trots
around exploring, but they both come as soon as they're called.
They're very good-natured dogs and learn really
quickly. I found Tash already understood 'Go and find your ball'
and they both knew 'sit'. Lots of people ask about them and they're
an excellent advertisement for K9. Thanks again – they're really
lovely.

France now
Bessie
Dear everyone at K9 Rescue,
Please accept my apologies as this letter has been a long time coming! I
figured now was a good time to give you all an update, as it’s almost
been a year since I moved in with my Rachel and her Family! The 22nd of
June 2010 seems like a lifetime ago, as so much has happened since then.
My Rachel was pretty unwell and unhappy on that fateful day she decided
to visit K9, but she is always telling me that everything changed the
moment she saw my face!
While I was living at K9, my name was France, as all of our names were
inspired by countries participating in the FIFA World Cup. Rachel says I
didn’t seem to respond too well to ‘France’, so she and her brother
brainstormed on the way home and settled on Bessie. I like it and I
always wag my tail when someone says my name!
Anyway, I think it’s time to go for a run down at the oval. Rachel just
wanted me to write to say thank you so much for introducing us. We are
the very best of friends. I always know when she’s having a bad day with
her health and offer her cuddles and face licks a plenty. I can only
hope that all of my other doggie friends at K9 find such loving owners
and happy lives.
Love Bessie x |

Connor
To the Wonderful People of k9.
My husband Stephen & I adopted young Connor yesterday. I thought you
might like to know how his first day with us went.
We took him to meet my parents dog Susie and although a little wary of
each other they got on well which was a relief as they may need to spend
some time together.
We then took him home where he sniffed and explored the house and garden
to his heart’s content but he always kept one of us in his sight. We
weren’t sure how he would settle as he seemed (understandable so) a
little nervous. We had a basket for him and he was quite happy to get
comfortable in
it..........................until..............................
We decided to keep Connor off our lounge suite from the beginning to
prevent any misunderstandings. When Steve decided to watch the Formula 1
racing on TV, Connor made it quite clear what he thought of our first
rule and you would think he has lived here all of his life.
We think he has settled in quite nicely, what do you
think??.............We will try to get him to spend the night in his
basket????
Thanks for looking after him and for letting us have him become part of
our family.

Jack - Cracka-Jack
Hi, we (Hubby, me and daughter) recently came and
got Cracka from you, as a companion for my elderly Father in Law. He's
been a huge hit and has settled in really well. My Father in Law, Alan,
is really pleased with Cracka (whom he calls Jack - as in Cracka-Jack).
He's blind, and often sits on the ground sweeping up leaves, and "Jack"
will sit on his lap. This pleases him immensely. Jack has worked out as
we had hoped. We visit often, and our kids walk Jack twice a week around
the block, plus enjoy playing ball with him. He's an awesome little dog,
and is very happy. That little tail doesn't stop wagging.
Jack was meant to be for us, and he's worked out fantastically
Thanks |

Yana now Kara
Hi..We adopted our dog Kara
from K9 back in 2001 as a 6 week old puppy. She is a beautiful dog,
still really active, very friendly and has brought us a lot of joy.
When Kara was 12 months old we rescued another dog Stolli (the hairy
brown dog in the photo), who is now 13. We saved him when we heard
he was going to be put down. The two are best buddies, never leave
each other’s side. Kara has moved house (with us) 4 times, including
a 3 year stint in Sydney (she doesn’t like flying). We hope she will
be with us for a few years yet, but when she and her mate Stolli are
no longer with us, we will be back at K9 for a new friend. Thank you
to K9 for the wonderful job you do with all the dogs.

Holly now
Charli
Hullo, my new name is Charli and my Mum & Dad wanted to show
you how much I like my new home in our big motor-home.
I have met so many new friends including Charlie the donkey, loads of
sheep and goats, Christmas the furry rabbit, chooks and a black lamb
(who just wants to play with me all the time), lots of canine cousins
and I love all of them. My photo is of where I sleep with my new friend
(stuffed off course) and Mum & Dad too.
So thank you for introducing me to my new family, I'm spoilt rotten (as
I should be). Mum & Dad love me so much and I make them laugh all the
time.
Thank you for looking after me.
Kind regards
Charli, Les & Shirley |

Faith and
Pudding now Diamond & Topaz
Diamond and Topaz Connolly (nee: Faith and Pudding') would
like to say Merry Christmas to you and all the other dogs you are
looking after.
They have recently turned 2 and started their day with a run and swim at
the beach, then came home to open their Christmas stockings.
Then spent the rest of the day asleep! (Wish I was a dog).
We hope you had a lovely Christmas,
Nicole, Jasmine, Topaz and Diamond |

Roo now Hamish
Hello to all my friends at K9. Firstly, thank you
for being so nice to me while I stayed with you and for
helping my Mum to find me a new home. My name was Roo while
I was there, but Mum thinks I’m more of a Hamish, so that’s
my name now. I’ve been at my new house for a month now, and
am really happy. I like my walks to the beach, especially
when I dig up dead fish or sticks in the sand, and once I
even managed to find a meat pie! Yep, I love my food – Mum
says sometimes the stuff I try to eat isn’t food, but I’m
still learning. I love my chew toys, especially the Kong,
which keeps me busy for hours. I also like tummy rubs and
cuddles. Mum says I’m too big to be a lap dog, but I’ll keep
trying anyway. I like to play fetch and even bring the ball
back most times, but I figure since it’s my ball I should be
allowed to play with it sometimes. I’m also really good at
soccer. I get along with all other animals I meet – so far,
that’s been cats, other dogs and even a rabbit.
Thanks again, I just wanted to let you know I’m doing really
well and my Mum is so very, very happy she brought me home.
She says I’m the best thing that’s ever happened to her and
keeps telling me how much she loves me, even when I stretch
out and take up all the room on her bed.
Love, Hamish

HONEY
Hi everyone
Just wanted
to let you all know that Honey is living up to her name, she is a
real honey and settling in well. She happily played on Friday with
Hogan (formerly from the K9) in Warnbro, travelled well in the car
home to the hills, eagerly ate tea, slept soundly, had a walk this
morning and some visitors to give her some more pats and treats this
afternoon. She and the cat are almost friends – the cat is more
concerned than Honey!
|
 |
I just wanted to say that we
adopted Hogan in June 2009. He looks ferocious but is the most
gentle, loyal companion you could ever have. We adopted him to be a
watchdog as well as a pet. Absolutely useless as a watchdog. We had
to teach him how to bark and he only barks now when we give him a
signal to do so. He travels everywhere with us. Lives in the caravan
with us. Has travelled up North, down South and into the Goldfields.
He doesn't know how to swim, just sinks like a rock. I guess he will
eventually learn. Our grandchildren can do anything with him. He
does not attack other dogs just wants to befriend everyone and every
animal. We have a galah who bosses Hogan around when it is out of
the cage. Hogan knows who the boss it and it isn't him. Strangers
walk up to Hogan and give him a pat. His big brown eyes just look at
you and you can't help but make a fuss of him. He is adorable and
thankyou K9 for having him available when we were looking for a dog.
You all do a wonderful job and there are many
people and dogs whose life you have changed. Keep up the good work.
Best wishes
Bob and Elaine Lindau and Hogan

Natasha now Nhala
Hi. I would like to re-introduce you to Nhala, formally Natasha. We
adopted Nhala during summer in 1998. She was an adult dog when we
adopted her, and she is still going strong today, although she is
slowing down a bit. These days she is deaf, needs to be picked up to be
put in the car for her beach trips, and sleeps pretty much all the time.
My eldest boy was two when she came home, and now he is bigger than me.
I am glad that my 3 other children have had the opportunity to grow up
with her by their side.
I remember the day that I first saw her in a large outdoor pen with many
other dogs. I stood at the fence, and all of the other dogs jostled for
my attention, some barking, some jumping. I was almost about to turn
away when I saw her laying near a log with her head up in the regal
fashion that she still does today. She was mine from that moment. I had
to leave her there and pick her up a week later as she was not yet
sterilised. She had not had a litter prior to adoption, and it breaks my
heart every time I see her with a kitten, a rabbit, puppy or child. She
is so gentle and maternal, yet strong and confident. If only I had the
$500 000 to clone her, and yes, I have enquired.
Now she is old. Very old. Sometimes she does not wake up even when
shaken gently, and we have to check that she is still breathing. Her
eyes are droopy, but as sharp as diamonds. Once, she was the most highly
trained dog that many had ever seen. Now, she can do what ever she
wants, as she knows what she can get away with. She has earned her
luxurious retirement. I will be there stroking her head when the time
comes.
So, Thankyou K9 Rescue. You have added so much love and joy to my family
that will last with us forever. |

Lizzy not
Tazzie
When I left your care my name was 'Lizzy' but now at my
new home my name is 'Tazzie'. I think its cause I kinda look like I have
tiger stripes and my owner likes tasmanian tigers... anyway its a cool
name!
I got a big yard here at my new home. I get to go for walks down to the
dog park where I play chasing with my human friends. Tho I like curling
up on my very own couch in front of the tv with the family at night
best.
Last week I got to go to South Perth for a walk. So many new smells and
strange dogs. Then I got to go for a big drive back to Mandurah where I
got to play with grandads dog 'Mickey'. We ran around for ages till we
fell asleep together under a tree.
So just lettin you know I love my new home and thanks for looking after
me until my new Mum found me :) |

BOB now
CUZ
Just wanted to let you know Bob whom we have renamed Cuz (after Ben
Cousins as we are major West Coast Eagles fans) is settling in nicely to
his new home. He is adorable and very well behaved. You have done a
wonderful job in giving him some great basic skills as well as a liking
for cuddles. He walks wonderfully on a lead and sits and comes most of
the time. He is very good at waiting for permission to start his food.
We will start taking him to obedience as soon as he has had his next
vac. He absolutely loves the raw hide chew and has lost about 4 baby
teeth in 4 days. We know the vet's well as Lewie, our past dog,
was a patient their for 15 years until she was helped off to sleep a
couple of years ago and yes she was named after Eagles player Chris
Lewis). I will bring Cuz down for his injection, vac and micro
chip, to make sure all is OK as it looks like his new teeth are coming
through.
Thanks ...Anne |
