I just want to share the story of my best friend with everyone.
His name was Lewis he was my best friend.
Three days after Christmas 08 I had to have Lewis put to sleep after a year of getting problems with his spine due to age. It was the hardest choice I have ever had to make.
Lewis was about 11 months old in June 96 when we rescued him in Mandurah W.A .I loved him the as soon as I saw him ,he was so full of love and life.
It took some time for him to grow out the puppy stage but was well worth the wait in the end.
He was so gentle that he would let the budgie sit on his back like a jockey and we had a pet rabbit that wouldn't stop trying to hump Lewis's head funnily enough. Lewis's head must have looked like another rabbit , I felt sorry for Lewis putting up with this ,so I went and got the rabbit sterilized. It helped! = )
I never had any doubt about leaving Lewis around my new born baby. As my daughter got older she would crawl over him but he would just stay still and just loved all his family.
My husband would have to work away sometime and Lewis knew this was the time to look after us, this was the only time he would ever bark if someone was at the door.
I do so miss him.
I am giving it a while but am confident I will be rescuing another Greyhound in the future. I truly believe these dogs have sole.
Thank you "My Lewis"," Big boy". I will never forget you, friend.

My partner Dave and I adopted Billy Boy over 2 years ago and I have been meaning to email you and fill you in on his progress so many times.
Unfortunately we had to put him down yesterday (07/03/09) due to his epilepsy.
We didn't find out he had this until well after we had adopted him and we did everything we could to keep him healthy and well until it was beginning to be too hard on him.
He was the most playful and well behaved dog we have ever had and honestly we are so lost without him even after one day. We got to share 2 Christmases and birthdays with him and we made sure he got spoilt on each occasion! He loved all his toys and played with them everyday and was so loved by every member of our family!! Even by strangers!!
I wish we had more time with him but, we know we made the right decision because he was at peace when we took him to the vet.
I know this isn't the normal success story you do get, but I felt I had to write it to help me with some closure.
Thank you for letting me adopt him way back then, I will treasure every moment we had with him!!

Hi,
I keep meaning to email to tell you about our Dog Tasha, we got her from your organization in 1995 her name was Petra because she was petrified of people. She was 6 months old and had a traumatic start to life, it took a few weeks to gain her trust but once she knew she was safe we could not have ever imagined a more loving loyal and protective pet. I was 8 when we got her and she was my best mate, now I'm 21 and she is 14. We had to  have her put to sleep today after a battle with cancer as well as being nearly blind, arthritic and a bit senile (she swears she didn’t get fed) but she could still bark at the horses if they got rowdy all be it from her front row seniors seat on the veranda.
She was always incredibly patient even with my puppy and taught him every bad habit she knew which were not many. She loved the water, peanut butter and long bush walks but wouldn’t chase a ball cause if you throw you go and retrieve it. She will be a sorely missed member of our family and any other pets have a high standard to meet.
Thank you for the opportunity to have had such a great dog. We have family and friends who have dogs from you and they are all fantastic pets. Without your organizations' tireless work these animals wouldn’t have a second chance, keep up the good work.

Regards Taia

Sarisha now Steffie

It is with a very sad heart that I am sending you this e-mail. We adopted Steffie (was Sarisha) in Aug last year. Unfortunately she had to be put to sleep as she had a tumour on the brain.
Although we feel cheated that we could not enjoy her for many more years we are grateful that we did have her for a while. Steffie gave us a lot of love & laughs. Staffies are such characters!
I have attached a photo of her with our youngest daughter Shannon.
We miss her. Rest in Peace Steffie girl.
Kind Regards  Zillah

PIP
Just a quick note to tell you of the passing of our much loved Jack Russell Pip.  We rescued Pip from K9 about six or seven years ago, and he very quickly became a dearly loved member of our family. (During his time with you he was called Pickle). Pip suffered acute kidney failure, and went from being a bright vibrant little dog, to a very very sick one in a matter of days. Our hearts broke when we were told that the kindest thing was to say goodbye.

When we came out to K9 on that occasion it was to look at a completely different dog, however we saw Pickle and he just looked at us, with a ball in his mouth, and a look of absolute joy on his face.  We fell in love with him immediately, and took him home. When we first saw him, and the way he looked at us with such great expectation I immediately thought of the Dickens book, Great Expectations, and the hero Pip. From that day on, that's who he was.  Our darling boy went on to be a constant source of love and laughter, from playing hide and seek, to surfing after his frisbee at the beach.  We enjoyed long walks together discovering new places to stop and sniff constantly.  Our grandchildren loved him, and miss him as much as we do.  He is now laid at peace, in his basket under flowers and near the front gates to our house.  He sat there every morning when i went to work, and was there to meet me every evening when i came home. What a faithful friend you were my little man.

ZACK
in 1995 when i was only 2 years old my family and I moved from Newman a small mining town in the North West down to Mandurah. Not long after we were here we had to put down our family dog Maddy due to an ear infection. After her death we couldn't bear to have another dog and go through it all again. After a few weeks we felt a void in our family that only a loving dog could fill, so we decided to adopt a dog from the Mandurah K9 rescue. When we arrived we immediately fell in love with a 6 month old Boxer X named Zephyr. His placid nature and big brown eyes told us that he was the one who could make us a family again. we ended up naming him Zack. unfortunately, in june 2010, 3 days shy of Zack's 16th Birthday, we had to put him down due to arthritis and other problems caused by old age. i am now 18, and throughout my childhood i have so many wonderful memories of this loving dog. he will be missed terribly.

Callioppe

Callioppe
I moved to Perth in 2005 into a house....with a backyard and was so excited to be able to have a dog in my life again that I looked at your website before I had even hopped on the plane. I fell in love with a photo of a rotti x shephard called Callioppe. It was 2 weeks before I was able to meet her and I was so worried that someone would surely beat me to such a beautiful dog. When I came down to meet her she was perfect. She had hair missing and her ribs were visable but she was sweet, gentle and affectionate and a little shy. She settled within only a few days of bringing her home and seemed to truly know that her luck had changed and that this would be her forever family.
We were very similar creatures which is probably why we were so drawn to each other. Independent and adventurous (although I'd like to think that I would have been better at coming back when called!) She was nutty and entertaining. She chased her tail and would even sneak up on it. She chewed plastic bottles into just the right sharp scratchy shape so that she could flop down onto it and use it as a back scratcher. She would sigh, roll her eyes or raise one eyebrow with comic timing. She knew that the music on tv of fat cat going to bed meant that it was dinnertime and somehow had this inbuilt clock so she would wake up 5 minutes prior.
She absolutely adored kids. They could climb on her, pull her ears and tail and her face would light up, her tail would do the round and round wag and she would grin at me as if to say "Look Mum - they are the same size as me and they think I'm great". Everyone who met her loved her including those who were scared of or didn't really like dogs.
She had this way of sitting next to those she loved and resting her head on their knee and looking up in the most adoring way as if to say "I love you and I'm really glad you're a part of my life". I was so pleased she approved of my boyfriend right from the start and have loved watching the close bond forming between them over the last 10 months.
She was my best friend, my faithful companion, protector and guardian. She was so strong and wagged her tail right up until the end. Goodbye my beautiful puppy girl my life is so much richer for having known you.
Thankyou to all your wonderful staff and supporters who make these relationships with such beautiful animals possible

Simon
Our names and Graeme & Norma and we adopted one of your dogs about 13 years ago. At the time you had an older couple fostering him & I think they lived around the Manning area & they called him “”Simon””. However, they had 2 dogs of their own and were looking for a home for him. I met him when he was 6 months old & we tried him with our resident dog which went well. We named him “Jake” and he has been with us all these years. He gave us so much love, joy & laughter and we gave him a loving home with holidays down south and 2 other dog buddies to live with who also loved him.

I just wanted to let you know that Jake passed away last Thursday at the vets after a short but serious illness. He was very special to us and we are devastated at our loss. We wanted you to know about Jake and to thank you for rescuing him as without your hard work we would never have had such a beautiful dog in our lives. He was well loved and cared for and gave us so much love in return. From a very grateful family. Here is a photo of him lying by the pool only last year.
